As pet adoption becomes more popular (yay!), the number of people who have mixed-breed dogs is also on the rise. While most mutt parents will have their own guesses as to their dog’s heritage, the National Mutt Census has determined these 10 dogs as the top breeds found in mixed-breed dogs. Read on to see what your mutt might be made of!
- German Shepherd
Personality: Smart and courageous, these active dogs are great workers and loyal friends.
Physical traits: Muscled and agile, these dogs can present with 11 different colors, and have medium-density fur.
- Lab Retriever
Personality: Labs are extra friendly and energetic, which makes them great family dogs and America’s most-popular dog breed.
Physical traits: Lab retrievers are athletic dogs with weather resistant, medium-density coats and an “otter” tail.
- Chow Chow
Personality: These thoughtful, mild-mannered dogs are one of the most common ancestors found in American mutts.
Physical traits: These pups sometimes appear to be more bear than dog, with high-density, fluffy hair that’s meant for arctic temperatures. Chow Chows also have blue-black tongues.
