– Innovacyn Sponsors 4,000-Mile Road Trip; Donates Vetericyn Products –
SURREY, England, and RIALTO, Calif, Oct. 18, 2011 – The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust announced that it has teamed up with Innovacyn, a healthcare company that makes Vetericyn products, and two UK veterinarians, Pat Sells and Laura Heaps, to deliver essential medical aid and supplies to the charity’s clinic in Sambel Kunda, Gambia. In addition to transporting supplies, the 4X4 truck driven as part of the Vetericyn Veterinary Mission to Gambia will be donated to the clinic. Sells and Heaps plan to begin their grueling 4,000-mile journey at the end of October.
“The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust changes the lives and futures of untold numbers of animals and their owners in Western Africa. Our goal in sponsoring the trip and donating Vetericyn products is to help the Trust save working animals that are vital to the livelihood of so many families. We couldn’t be more impressed by the selfless work of this group, and are proud to support them,” said Brian Costigan, sales and marketing manager, Europe, of Innovacyn.
“Every year horses and donkeys die needlessly from disease and neglect,” explained Dr. Sells. “There are more than 100 million equines (horses, donkeys, mules) in the developing world – the vast majority of these without any access to veterinary care, and under the constant threat of fatal infectious diseases.”
The Trust’s co-founder, Heather Armstrong, said, “There is still so much more that needs to be done, but with ongoing support we are going to continue making a huge impact on the lives of not only the animals but also the people who own them – the farmers who rely on them to carry supplies and the families who desperately need them to survive in so many ways. Every bit of help is going to not just ensuring the horses and donkeys are fed and treated, but that local residents learn how to look after them for the rest of their lives.”
