READ FAQs
Does FoamCare™ contain Vetericyn Plus?FoamCare does not contain the same technology as Vetericyn Plus. However, Vetericyn Plus and FoamCare have been formulated to work together and use in conjunction after bathing for wound and skin management.
Can I use the medicated FoamCare in place of Vetericyn Plus?
FoamCare Medicated Shampoo is indicated for the relief of itchy or dry skin, dermatitis or hot spots. Vetericyn Plus Wound & Skin Care products help aid in proper wound cleansing and wound management. It is best to use FoamCare to bathe your pet first, and then apply Vetericyn Plus, to ensure proper wound healing.
Can FoamCare be frozen?
FoamCare is a liquid substance. We recommend keeping this product indoors and away from freezing temperatures. If FoamCare freezes, allow product to thaw and shake vigorously before using.
What if I use the wrong formula?
Using a formulation that doesn’t exactly match your pet’s coat thickness will not cause any harm or ill reaction to your pet. The different FoamCare shampoo offerings are based on your pet’s hair thickness to help optimize cleansing and rinsing. Most pet owners will want to use the regular Shampoo + Conditioner. The Thick Coat formula works best on dogs with full, thick coats. If you use a formulation that doesn’t match your pet’s coat you may notice that the shampoo will not lather as well or rinse off as quickly as it would with the correct formualtion.
Can I dump the shampoo into a bucket and wash my pet that way?
FoamCare shampoo is best used as sprayed through its trigger system for correct foaming action. We do not recommend decanting the shampoo into other containers. The shampoo is designed to be sprayed through the trigger for optimal coverage and easy application.
How can I determine the hair thickness of my pet?
Your gut feeling is typically the best choice as pets vary greatly in their individual coat types. Most breeds will fall into the short-to-medium-hair category. If you find it more difficult to rinse FoamCare, try the other formulation. There will be no adverse reactions. Most pet owners will want to use the regular Shampoo + Conditioner. The Thick Coat formula works best on dogs with full, thick coats.
Why does the pH of shampoo matter?
Some shampoos have a lower pH which can disrupt the natural defenses of the animal’s skin acid mantle. All FoamCare Shampoo is specifically formulated for an optimized pH for pet’s skin and do not disrupt the natural acid mantle.
Which density should I use if my pet has an undercoat?
The thickness of an undercoat will change depending on the time of year. Generally, if a pet has a noticeable undercoat, the Shampoo + Conditioner for Thick Coats is the best choice.
What are the benefits to the spraying application?
The spray application makes bath time easier, reduces stress, limits mess and uses the shampoo more efficiently. The spray foam application is easy to apply in one fluid motion. FoamCare can be applied all over your pet before lathering reducing the need to pick up a soapy bottle with wet hands.
What are the benefits to the foaming application?
The foaming application provides a deeper clean that nourishes your pet’s skin. The foam is easy to lather into your pet’s coat and clean the skin.
What are the benefits to paraben free?Parabens are man-made chemicals and are a widely used as a preservative in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and foods. Studies show there are possible negative side effects to paraben use.
What are the benefits of being plant based?
A plant-based shampoo is important because it provides natural benefits to the skin such as aloe. FoamCare does not contain any harmful chemicals that can hurt animal skin.
How many washes can you get per bottle?
Compared to traditional pet shampoo, FoamCare users find the foaming trigger system extends the life of the shampoo since it is used much more efficiently. The actual amount of washes depends on the size of your pet as each animal requires different amounts of shampoo.
I have several pets with different coat types, which formualtion would be best?
We recommend using the formulation that corresponds to each of your pet’s coat type. Each formula contains different conditioning agents specific to that coat density. If you are still not sure, grab a bottle of FoamCare Shampoo + Conditioner!
Can this be used in conjunction with flea or tick treatments?
Yes, FoamCare shampoos are compatible with flea or tick treatments. We recommend following directions stated by the flea or tick company and not bathing your pet for 48 hours after application.
Does this shampoo kill fleas & ticks?
No, FoamCare does not kill fleas or ticks. However, the FoamCare Medicated formula will provide relief and help itching and dry skin to heal.
Is this shampoo safe around the eyes? Is it tearless?
Yes, FoamCare is safe around the eye area. However, it is not considered a tearless shampoo. If product gets in the animal’s eyes, simply rinse well and flush with water to alleviate any chances of discomfort or irritation.
What is the difference between Pet and Equine formulas?
Each of the FoamCare Shampoo products are specifically formulated for coat density and hair type. Equine coats are much different than companion animals and therefore formulated differently.
Does FoamCare have a fragrance?
FoamCare non-medicated pet shampoos contain a natural smelling fresh and clean scent. The Equine non-medicated shampoo is fragrance free. Both medicated FoamCare products (pet and equine) are scent neutral.
What are the active ingredients in the medicated shampoo?
Equine Medicated FoamCare Shampoo contains Ketoconazole, an excellent ingredient to aid the treatment of fungal conditions.
Pet FoamCare Medicated Shampoo contains Salicylic Acid, an excellent ingredient to aid the treatment of various dermatological conditions.
How often can I wash my pet with FoamCare?
FoamCare Shampoos contain no harsh chemicals so they are gentle enough to use as often as you desire.
Can FoamCare Shampoo be used on puppies and kittens?
Yes, all of our shampoos are safe for puppies and kittens.
Can I use the FoamCare non-medicated and medicated shampoo on cats?
Yes, all FoamCare shampoos are safe to use on cats.
Can I use FoamCare on food producing animals?
FoamCare shampoo does not have any withdrawal times when used on animals.
Does it need to be rinsed?
Yes, all FoamCare variations need to be rinsed off the animal. FoamCare has been specifically formulated to be easy to rinse and leave the coat optimally conditioned.
Is FoamCare anti-allergenic?
Yes, all FoamCare shampoo variations are anti-allergenic. All ingredients are intended to prevent or minimize an allergic reaction.
Is FoamCare shampoo a plant-based product?
All non-medicated products are plant based & do not contain any harsh chemicals; which is important because they provide natural benefits to the skin.
Do the medicated shampoos need to be left on the animal for a time period before being rinsed off?
No, there is no specific time requirement. The medicated shampoo is intended to aid in the treatment or relief of certain skin conditions.
Can the medicated products be used on animals that have broken skin?
We do not recommend applying any shampoo directly to a wound or broken skin due to potential irritation. Even a mild non-medicated shampoo can be irritating to compromised skin and we recommend users avoid applying any shampoo directly into a cut or wound. Vetericyn Plus Wound & Skin Care Hydrogel can be applied to broken skin to form a protective barrier over the affected area and help healing.
Why do you use Sodium Laurel Sulfate as the surfactant?
We use Sodium Laurel Sulfate because it is one of the best, most common, and most effective surfactants for shampoos due to its foaming and anionic characteristics.
Why is Sodium Laurel Sulfate an ingredient in the regular shampoos but not the Medicated shampoos?
The Medicated shampoo formulations require a different surfactant system to achieve dissolution and homogeneity of the active ingredients used in those formulations.
