Vetericyn Plus®
All Animal Antimicrobial Hydrogel
Protect, moisturize, and provide soothing relief to wounds and topical skin issues on your pet. Our antimicrobial hydrogel adheres to the affected area to cool and protect while helping to keep the wound clean and free from potential infection. The gel formula makes it easy to coat those hard-to-reach areas on your pet and is an excellent choice for wound dressings. In vitro testing of the active ingredient in Vetericyn Plus, hypochlorous acid, shows microbial inhibition against a broad range of microorganisms, including MRSA, yeast, and staph.
How To Use
To prime for initial application: Remove cap, depress and hold sprayer, shake bottle, release sprayer.
- Remove any excess hair from the wound area. Clip if necessary.
- Saturate the affected area, flushing away foreign debris.
- For best results when dressing is required, saturate with Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Wound Care and use in conjunction with Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel for proper protection and moisture balance during healing stages.
- Repeat 3-4 times daily or as necessary.
- Faster healing is achieved when wounds are cleaned and kept moist.
- No rinsing is necessary.
- Safe for use around sensitive areas like the mouth, nose, ears, and eyes.

The Technology Behind the Healing
This hydrogel is powered by the same hypochlorous acid technology as the rest of the Vetericyn Plus line, but formulated thicker so it clings to the wound area instead of running off like the liquid spray. That means the antimicrobial action keeps working between applications—for hard-to-reach spots, overnight care, or the stretch between dressing changes, when you need protection that lasts longer than a quick spray allows.
Apply it on its own for smaller wounds and touch-ups, or pair it with Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Wound and Skin Care spray—spray first to clean, then protect with the gel—for complete coverage on wounds.

Product Questions
Please contact us if you don't find an answer to your question here.
The product is a grayish color, is this normal?
Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel should be opaque or grayish. Be sure to shake it well prior to application. The liquid, Wound Care spray formulas are clear and not cloudy.
Why does the Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel spray harden if the product isn’t used?
This may happen because the product might have been frozen, the applicator was not closed properly, the cap was left off the pump sprayer, it was not stored in proper conditions, or it was exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. All Hydrogels must be shaken well before every use/application. Please follow storage instructions on product label to prevent possible problems.
Can you use Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel after the expiration date, if so, how long after?
We recommend using Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel before the expiration date printed on the bottle to get the full strength of the formula. Using it briefly after that date is not harmful, but effectiveness can no longer be guaranteed, so we recommend replacing expired bottles rather than risking reduced results.
What makes Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel unique from other animal wound care products?
Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel is unique from other animal wound care products because of it's safety profile. Vetericyn Plus is:
- Safe for use on all animal species regardless of age and condition.
- Non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-irritating, non-staining.
- Safe to use on or around the eyes, nose and mouth.
- Does not harm healthy tissue
- Free of steroids, alcohol, tea tree oil or antibiotics.
- Biodegradable and environmentally friendly.
- pH-balanced and are shelf-stable
- Can be easily applied with no mixing or dilution required.
- Does not require rinsing after use.
Are Vetericyn Plus products bleach and why is it safe to use?
Vetericyn Plus products are not and do not contain any bleach. Bleach is corrosive, toxic, will burn, generates fumes/vapors and is not safe for use cleansing wounds. In addition, stabilized bleach has a pH of >11 while Vetericyn Plus products are manufactured within an appropriate physiological pH range and will not sting when applied. Vetericyn Plus Hydrogel is a hypochlorous solution that is safe and non-toxic and pH balanced. It will not harm healthy tissue in the process of cleaning wounds.
Is Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel still functional if it freezes? How would you know the bottle was frozen?
If Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel has frozen, it may compromise its effectiveness. Because of this, we always take extra precautions when shipping in below freezing temperatures. If a bottle was frozen you will notice leaking as a result of expansion of the formula. The bottle walls may collapse after thawing out or evidence of ice may be noticeable within the solution. If you believe your bottle has been frozen, please contact our Customer Service team.
Can Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel be used with another product, medicine, or therapeutic products?
Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel is to be used per label indications. It has no known contraindications and no known negative drug interactions. After treating with Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel, we recommend that you advise your healthcare professional (veterinarian) of any treatment protocol you are following in addition to those recommended by the veterinarian. Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel is not intended for use on systemic conditions.
Can you use Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel for the ear or eye?
Vetericyn Plus products can be used on wounds and issues of the ear. As it pertains to the eye, we recommend the use of the Vetericyn Plus Eye Rinse or Pet Eye Gel. Not all of the products have specific indications for the eye.
Why is it significant that Vetericyn Plus products contain no antibiotics?
This is because there is no need to be concerned about the animal building up resistance to Vetericyn Plus products. Antibiotic resistance is a concern in the animal industry. The repeated and extended use of any Vetericyn Plus product in cleaning and debriding the wound bed has no adverse consequences. In addition, if there are regulatory limitations for use of antibiotics, those limitations do not apply to Vetericyn Plus products.
Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel has a faint chlorine smell. When applied to an open wound, isn’t the chlorine painful to the animal?
While there is a slight chlorine odor, there is a proprietary amount of Free Active Chlorine (FAC) measured in parts per million which is not significant enough to cause stinging when applied.
What is the difference between Vetericyn Plus Hydrogel available in stores and Vetericyn Plus VF available through my veterinarian?
Vetericyn Plus VF formulations have a higher concentration of ingredients in comparison to OTC Vetericyn Plus products found in stores. The Vetericyn Plus VF formulations are only sold to licensed veterinarians and can only be obtained from such.
What's the difference between Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Hydrogel and the Wound Care spray, and do I need both?
Our Wound Care spray is a thinner liquid, ideal for flushing debris and cleaning the wound bed. The Antimicrobial Hydrogel is thicker and adheres to the affected area, so it stays in place longer to cool, protect, and keep the wound moist between cleanings. Many pet parents use both together: spray first to clean, then apply the hydrogel to help protect the wound and aid healing. But the hydrogel works well on its own for smaller wounds or touch-ups.
Excellent product! Very pet friendly!!
I can not say enough good about the hydrogel product! It has been an amazing wound care product in my household for years. I stumbled across it when I showed pictures to a clerk at TSC of my Sibercaan (Siberian Husky/Canaan dog) abdomen/chest tumor that had ruptured leaving a gaping hole and asked if there was anything I could use to ease the pain until the vets office was open. It was the weekend. Hydrogel was recommended. By Monday the wound was well into the healing stages. This stuff is fantastic! Easy to apply, no mess, and no sting; The dog actually looked forward to it being applied! Fast forward, many pets later and this product still lives up to its name! It has healed wounds on my dog who suffers from allergies and has scratched skin raw. Hair has grown back in thick and even more beautiful! My cat had suffered a tick bite that left a skin gash and the hydrogel is working it's magic currently as the wound is almost healed! My chickens, especially the brahmas have also benefited from the hydrogel! Those pesky foot feathers sometimes get 'stuck' and can't emerge from the skin. I spray with hydrogel and gently work the feather to the surface. Such a versatile product that works! This is a pet medicine cabinet , keep on hand must! Excellent product! Note- Always close the sprayer to maintain a consistent flow of the hydrogel. Leaving the nozzle open or gummed up will compromise your product and that would be such a waste! It is a little pricey but definitely does an excellent job!

Hydrogel
My kitty is a very light-colored orange and white tabby. Like most white cats, he sunburns. I’m super-careful about keeping him out of sunny windows, but of course, he loves to sneak a nap on the south-facing. window with his nose to the screen, even if he has to crawl under the window blinds to do so. He ends up looking like his nose, head, and forehead have the measles. Hydrogel helps the itchy red dots of his sun-sensitivity heal faster. Some of it gets licked off, but it isn’t a toxic product. He heals without it, but he heals faster with it. It doesn’t sting, but it does have an (okay) smell. He doesn’t like the sound of the spray, so I spray my palm and put a drop on my finger then on him. I’m glad to have found a non-toxic product that helps.

The best I’ve ever used on an horse injury. My filly tore open her shoulder and it’s the only product I used after the vet cleaned it out. Can’t even tell!
