Product Questions

Please contact us if you don't find an answer to your question here.

The product is a grayish color, is this normal?

Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel should be opaque or grayish. Be sure to shake it well prior to application. The liquid, Wound Care spray formulas are clear and not cloudy.

Why does the Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel spray harden if the product isn’t used?

This may happen because the product might have been frozen, the applicator was not closed properly, the cap was left off the pump sprayer, it was not stored in proper conditions, or it was exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. All Hydrogels must be shaken well before every use/application. Please follow storage instructions on product label to prevent possible problems.

Can you use Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel after the expiration date, if so, how long after?

We recommend using Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel prior to the expiration date marked on the label to utilize maximum strength.

What makes Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel unique from other animal wound care products?

Are Vetericyn Plus products bleach and why is it safe to use?

Vetericyn Plus products are not and do not contain any bleach. Bleach is corrosive, toxic, will burn, generates fumes/vapors and is not safe for use cleansing wounds. In addition, stabilized bleach has a pH of >11 while Vetericyn Plus products are manufactured within an appropriate physiological pH range and will not sting when applied. Vetericyn Plus Hydrogel is a hypochlorous solution that is safe and non-toxic and pH balanced. It will not harm healthy tissue in the process of cleaning wounds.

Is Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel still functional if it freezes? How would you know the bottle was frozen?

If Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel has frozen, it may compromise its effectiveness. Because of this, we always take extra precautions when shipping in below freezing temperatures. If a bottle was frozen you will notice leaking as a result of expansion of the formula. The bottle walls may collapse after thawing out or evidence of ice may be noticeable within the solution. If you believe your bottle has been frozen, please contact our Customer Service team.

Can Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel be used with another product, medicine, or therapeutic products?

Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel is to be used per label indications. It has no known contraindications and no known negative drug interactions. After treating with Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel, we recommend that you advise your healthcare professional (veterinarian) of any treatment protocol you are following in addition to those recommended by the veterinarian. Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel is not intended for use on systemic conditions.

Can you use Vetericyn Plus Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel for the ear or eye?

Vetericyn Plus products can be used on wounds and issues of the ear.  As it pertains to the eye, we recommend the use of the Vetericyn Plus Eye Rinse or Pet Eye Gel. Not all of the products have specific indications for the eye.

Why is it significant that Vetericyn Plus products contains no antibiotics?

This is because there is no need to be concerned about the animal building up resistance to Vetericyn Plus products. Antibiotic resistance is a concern in the animal industry. The repeated and extended use of any Vetericyn Plus product in cleaning and debriding the wound bed has no adverse consequences. In addition, if there are regulatory limitations for use of antibiotics, those limitations do not apply to Vetericyn Plus products.

Vetericyn Plus Feline Feline Antimicrobial Hydrogel has a faint chlorine smell. When applied to an open wound, isn’t the chlorine painful to the animal?

While there is a slight chlorine odor, there is a proprietary amount of Free Active Chlorine (FAC) measured in parts per million which is not significant enough to cause stinging when applied.

What is the difference between Vetericyn Plus Hydrogel available in stores and Vetericyn Plus VF available through my veterinarian?

Vetericyn Plus VF formulations have a higher concentration of ingredients in comparison to OTC Vetericyn Plus products found in stores. The Vetericyn Plus VF formulations are only sold to licensed veterinarians and can only be obtained from such.
