Future Leaders of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences 2024 Scholarship Winners – Vetericyn

Vetericyn is dedicated to improving the lives of animals and contributing to the future of the industry. We strive to support individuals pursuing careers in animal sciences, agriculture, and veterinary medicine. Building a strong community centered on animal healthcare and wellness is essential, and we are proud to positively impact the field through our Future Leaders of Agricultural and Veterinary Science Scholarship.

Each year, Vetericyn awards two high school graduates who plan to continue their education in agriculture, animal health, or veterinary sciences. We are excited to announce that this year, we have granted two $2,000 scholarships to exceptional individuals poised to make meaningful contributions to the industry. After reviewing an outstanding pool of applicants, we are pleased to introduce the recipients of our 2024 scholarship.

The Winners

After thoughtful deliberation (and many discussions due to the high quality of the applications), we are thrilled to announce this year’s scholarship winners: James Marshall and Rain Vasey. 

Rain Vasey

Rain Vasey grew up on a small farm where she raised livestock and operated equipment for baling hay. Her involvement in 4-H, starting at the age of five, has had a profound impact on her life. In May 2024, Rain was honored by Delaware’s Lieutenant Governor for her “Soulful Art Workshop” service project, which aimed to help community teens cope with stress. Additionally, Rain served as a pollinator ambassador, dressing as “SuperBee” to teach youth about the importance of pollination. In her spare time, Rain is restoring a 1973 VW Bus, complete with just the right amount of rust.

Rain’s career path is focused on becoming an agricultural applicator pilot. She plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness and earn pilot certifications. Her ultimate goal is to contribute to global efforts to grow more food and fuel. 

James Marshall 

James Marshall was raised on a 4,000-acre row crop and beef cattle farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, where he was immersed in agriculture from a young age. His dedication to the field is evident through his active participation in 4-H and FFA, where he has excelled in livestock judging and showing at both state and national levels. These hands-on experiences have sharpened his skills and deepened his passion for the agricultural industry. As James prepares to advance his education, he is excited to attend Cornell University this fall to major in agricultural science, intending to expand his knowledge further and contribute to the future of farming.
